Political Mashups

“The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera” ~ Dorothea Lang. Upon, seeing this quote the first thing that came to mind was mash-up. When the original version of anything is first introduced, we only tend to see it from one viewpoint. However, a mash-up illustrates a different idea and viewpoints that have never been introduced in the original version. For instance, you would see a mash-up that contains two polar opposite genres being brought together. It also has different response compared to the original version. One might anticipate a certain response in the original version because of the reputation that the genre holds. Conversely, in order to understand the mash-up, one must have a good understanding of the original version to understand the mash-up response.
