Homosexuality-your thoughts?

Homosexuality is a romantic attraction, sexual attraction or sexual behavior between members of same sex or gender. As a sexual orientation, homosexuality is " an enduring pattern of emotional, romantic, and /or sexual attractions" to people if the same sex.

Societal attitudes towards homosexuality vary greatly in different cultures and different historical periods,as do attitude towards sexual desire, activity and relationships in general. All cultures have their own values regarding appropriate and inappropriate sexuality;some sanction same sex love and sexuality, while others may disapprove of such activities.

Since the 1970s much of the world has become more accepting of same sex sexuality between partners of legal age. The countries that accept homosexuality are the ones that the people who live there are less religious based and the countries that do not accept homosexuality are the ones that the people who live there religion plays a major factor especially the countries in the Muslim nations.

Here are some questions I would like you to consider and respond to.

What are you views/opinions about homosexuality. Do you think nowadays people are much more open to homosexuality around them then lets say 10 to 15 years ago. Do you think that people who are gay are much more comfortable nowadays to be known for being homophobic then let's say 10 to 15 years ago.

Here's a video on high schoolers views on same sex marriages.

  2. Hey Nabil, here are some of my thoughts.
Heterosexuality is a romantic sexual attraction between members of opposite sexes and was generally accepted as the social norm, now that may or may not change. My belief is that Homosexuality should be treated or viewed similarly to the old norm of heterosexuality. You can still have you'r beliefs but so can others, thus implementing an inclusive society. Where you can go to a job setting, or the grocery store having confidence in your sexuality, at the same time being themselves, without being discriminated against. Altogether yes, in Canada homosexuality is slowly being accepted in several communities compared to maybe 50 years ago, but is still not there yet (A level that can be achieved). Canada needs to continue to aspire to be diverse and an inclusive society. Prime steps that us as a whole society can contribute is teaching children at a young age to understand rather than misunderstand, which can obviously prevent negative stereotypes while growing up.

  3. Heterosexual people are normal people with different taste likewise homosexual people are normal people with different taste, so both sexual orientation should be treated and respected as equal. Nowadays, people are much more open to their sexual orientation simply because they world has began to see them as normal people just with a different taste. famous celebrities like Pink, Wentworth Miller are proud about their sexual orientation, this gives other homosexuals courage as well to be open to their sexual orientation. So in conclusion, people are more open to their sexual orientation nowadays than 10 to 15 years ago.

  4. Do you think that people who are gay are much more comfortable nowadays to be known for being homophobic then let's say 10 to 15 years ago.

I think that gays will not be comfortable nowadays to be known for being homophobic, this is speaking about the world in general. Gays are accepted in Canada, but Canada is not the world. Many countries have put punishments in for being gay, these punishments range from 0-15 years in jail or death, this would not be comforting to hear for a gay couple/person. Then there is every ones tradition, every person has traditions. These traditions of marriage or relation always are between a man and a women, these traditions are never between two people of the same sex. The world is still very far from accepting same-sex relation.

  5. Well I believe that homosexual people now in today's society have many more opportunities than others did 10 to 15 years ago, because many more people are starting to accept the fact that homosexuality is increasing in numbers. Many more American states are starting to open their eyes to that fact as there is an increasing number of states legalizing same sex marriages. Many people believe that heterosexuality is keeping it traditional and in many situations put that expectation on to their kids, but as the world is progressing people feel more open and comfortable in their own skin. to put that point into perspective many people growing up didn't get a choice to voice their own opinions, due to the lack of resources around them, such as counseling, support group system, and etc.

  7. I believe that people can love whoever they want whether they are male or female, and people shouldn't have an issue with it. Going back to the previous comments, more people are accepting of homosexuality and they are now countries that are legalizing same sex marriage. However, that does not necessarily mean everyone is accepting of homosexuality. There are still a number of countries that punish people with imprisonment or death for being in a relationship with someone who is of the same sex. I don't believe that all homosexuals are comfortable because they still can receive mistreatment from their families, friends, school, and neighborhood. It's not easy for homosexuals to be open about their sexuality because of being afraid they won't be accepted for being who they are.

  8. I agree with Nabil's phrase that the countries currently accepting gay marriage are the ones with less religious people in it. I view homosexuality as inappropriate, disgusting and immoral (just my own opinion not meant to offend anyone). I mean seriously the fact that homosexuality is a huge sin in most religions which include Islam, Christianity, Jewish, and even Hinduism means that it is improper. The basis that although all the religions completely disagree with each others theology they were all able to view homosexuality as being wrong strengthens the essential point is that it should be illegal in all places of the world. As for your question are people more open to homosexuality around them, my answer is unfortunately yes. People tend to see homosexuality as less of a problem due to all the famous celebrities that went public with their identity as gay. humans nowadays are much more comfortable being gay than in the past. I believe society is going the wrong way with homosexuality, it should be returned to how it was in the past (totally illegal and punishable by death).

  9. Hi Nabil, I think that the only people who accept homosexuality are non-religious people. In many religions homosexuality is a major sin, and someone who is very religious may not find it appropriate. Otherwise, homosexuality has become very common now, as a lot of people have become open about it. This has created confidence in other homosexual people, making them feel comfortable. 10-15 years ago, same sex marriages were not legalized in Canada or America, but now many states in America, and all of Canada has legalized same-sex marriages which goes on to show that people have become more accepting towards homosexual people.

  10. Hi Nabil, nice article. Yes I do think gay/lesbian people are more comfortable nowadays to be who they are. Certainly in Canada where we have progressed so much as a society. Ontario in particular has a lesbian premier, and our Prime Minister always marches in the LGBTQ pride parade in Toronto. This shows how open and inclusive Canada has become, which allows Lesbians/Gays to feel accepted for who they are. Now that's only Canada, but it isn't the same across the world, as in countries like Russia, Saudi Arabia, and India, a lesbian/gay person would not be comfortable for who they are, as they would be punished.
My opinions on homosexuality is that it should be allowed, people have the right to love who ever they love. The government has no business in peoples bedrooms.

  12. Hey Nabil, i believe that the whole world slowly will become accepting to the LGBTQ community but this will take more time. in the past 10-15 years to now people have become more accepting to the LGBTQ community but only in certain areas. North and South America, Europe and recently Australia for the most part have changed drastically their acceptance over these years. However, places like Asia and Africa mostly believe the same stereotypes and has had little to no change in these 10-15 years. Firstly, this is because these areas are more religious and do not want to go against there religion like you said. Although this may be true this is not the only reason for Homophobia. If you look to Russia there are tight laws against gays, a fine for gay imagery or even 15 days custody. This is because these areas are not subject to much change, Russia for all its power and money it is a severely undeveloped country. Over the past 10-15 years Russia itself has not seen much change so the sudden increase of Gays is abnormal to them. People don't support the LGBTQ because it is out of the norm. It will take more then another 10-15 years for gays to be accepted internationally but with more time they will be accepted.

  13. Hey Nabil, I believe homosexuality is still frowned upon today which I really do not understand. Nobody should be judged for something they have no choice in, the sexual orientation of people is not up to them and even if it was it's really not the concern of anybody else. I believe everybody should be able to live the same regardless of how they feel about men and women. And I believe the stigma against homosexuality in religion is absolutely ludicrous, why hate somebody because a book tells you to. I'm not trying to offend religious people and sorry if i have.

  14. Great blog Nabil! In regards to your question "Do you think nowadays people are much more open to homosexuality around them then lets say 10 to 15 years ago" I completely agree that people are much more open to admitting their homosexuality today. With that being said I also believe that people are much more open in countries where homosexuality isn't frowned upon. People who reside in countries where homosexuality is a severe crime may try to hide their identity to prevent public abuse and capital punishment. I personally think it will still take a countless amount of years before the entire world is accepting of homosexuals.
