Gender Inequality
* Merry Xmas from Ademola Male vs female Gender inequality is a well known recurring issue in the society. Let's agree that there has been more male jobs than there is for the females. Engineering being the most dominated profession by male gender, while about 11% of females are practically engineers. Now to consider if the world is being fair or not using the following criteria: Considering the biology of the human body, males are more physically and mentally conditioned for labor jobs; they have higher grip strength than females. Women in general are more gentle, passionate and delicate than men. I'm not a sexist but imagine a world where hospitals are dominated by men, no one will want to go there for treatment, or a world where crane and heavy vehicle operation is dominated by women. Production won't be fast and efficient. Here's an video and article discussing the dangers of women doing heavy lifting and shift...
Another way or source that influences people would be their role models, so famous people who dress feminine for instance James Charles, the first ever gay model for cover girl he indirectly interpreting the gay man stereotype, and he is a big role model and influence on homosexual men. He is also famous internationally so many eyes are on him. Many people would believe just by knowing him that is how homosexual men are, wearing makeup and women’s clothes.
ReplyDeleteI think one other way of stoping people from stereotyping gay men would be more gay men who know they are different to come into the light and get their voices out there for other impressionable people to hear. I believe that it depends on the person on what influences them the most, but if we generalize that to the whole society then it would have to be films, because as you mentioned GBF is a really big stereotype and it came from movies not magazines.
ReplyDeleteI believe one way we can stop people from stereotyping homosexuals would be having advocates for the LGBT community and educate us on the gay community and not let the media influence our views on homosexuality. I feel like people only stereotype a group they know little or nothing about so I think one way we can stop the stereotyping is educating people about the gay community. Just like what Abdullah said, it all depends on what influences the person the most because some people might not watch films or read articles, they prefer listening to the radio or podcasts because everyone is not influenced on only films, or articles.
ReplyDeleteHey, great topic OP. I can agree that gay men are stereotyped as more feminine. This is definitely seen through television and other media outlets. With gay men only being exposed as feminine, while excluding the masculine ones, this definitely contributes to the stereotype against gay men. I would say that including more masculine gay men instead of mostly "feminine" ones would help balance out the stereotype. Print and film are both very strong outlets. Where in print, it's a little more difficult to reach someones emotions, while in film it is much easier. I believe both sources of media have the power to negatively or positively impact society, it just depends on how it is created.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the best way to stop people from this ideology is to educate people that these stereotypes do not exist. I believe that shows and movies have the greatest influence on society. They portray gay men as weak and feminine. I believe there should be shows and movies in where gay men are portrayed as regular men strong men capable of doing everything straight men are capable of.
